How to Master the Decorative Cushions Mix

When it comes to making your living room comfortable and cosy, the right cushions go a long way. They add a touch of style and make your relaxing afternoons even more comfortable for you and your family. Apart from a well-decorated coffee table, a well-decorated sofa with cushions is another important element that contributes to the aesthetics of a living room.

However, today’s market is overloaded with countless cushion designs, some of which aren’t suitable for your specific design scheme. Luckily, I’ve compiled some useful bits of advice that will help you transform your living room sofa with the power of cushions. Read on if you want to find out more!

What is the Best Cushion Cover Material?

The material you choose for your cushions may make or break the comfort of your sofa. Cushions that are either over-stuffed or understuffed are a no-no; you want those that have enough filling to give support without separating or flattening out.

Cushion covers are also important so make sure the one you choose isn’t allergen-inducing and withstands wear and tear. Natural materials are the best choice for indoor decorative cushions. They’re breathable, soft to the touch, low-maintenance, and some of them are even hypoallergenic. Here are a few good examples:

  • Linen: This material is extremely soft and durable, so you can expect it to last you a long time. Moreover, it gives your sofa a distinct classy feel.
  • Cotton: Cotton is a light and cosy natural fabric. It’s highly durable, as well as hypoallergenic and as such it’s a great choice for neutral decorative cushions gray equally as bright coloured ones. However, avoid placing cotton cushions on your garden lounge or another piece of outdoor furniture. The outdoor weather easily damages this natural material.
  • Bouclé: This is a French term which means “curled” or “ringed.” It usually refers to either yarn or fabric formed from looped fibres. Wool is the most commonly used material for this technique, but cotton, linen, and silk have also been used. Bouclé has a unique rugged texture that offers both comfort and visual interest.

Which Colour Should I Choose?

Once you’ve decided on the material, the next step is choosing the colour. If you need neutral and stylish cushions gray is the way to go. They come in several trendy designs, both in solids and prints. They even out the tone of the room and make it a pleasant space to be in. These cushions are made from high-quality natural linen and bouclé, which makes them extremely cosy as well.

If you want to create a more vibrant look, examine the soft furnishings, wall art, drapes, and any other existing decorations in the space where you will use the cushions. You should try to select two to three central colours in your space which will serve as the basis for your palette.

This is something you’ll want to keep in mind while shopping for cushions online. To keep this basic motif going, they simply require one of these colours somewhere in them. You might have one or two solid colours, followed by a few designs with components in similar hues. However, keep in mind that some will clash. For this reason, it’s a good practice to incorporate a few neutral grey cushions that will bring the space into balance.

Consider Adding Fun Prints

Don’t be scared of designs and patterns – they can liven up even the drabbest couch. When choosing a print, take note of the colours that are present in your living area. If you want to step up the style of your couch, while avoiding tackiness from visual clutter, choose grey decorative cushions. If there are too many colours in your room, you can also try incorporating them into your patterns for a more coherent aesthetic.

Adapt to the Style of the Room

Stick with an even number of scatter pillows if you want a more classic aesthetic. Choosing two complementing solids and placing one in each corner of your sofa is one of the most efficient ways to do this. Then, in front of the other two, pick and place two smaller cushions. If your room’s aesthetic is more modern or eclectic, go for an odd number. For a three-seater couch, you may use five different scatter pillows as long as you stick to your colour scheme.

How to Arrange Cushions on Your Sofa?

While some people believe that their cushion collection should all be the same size and form, some of the most successful arrangements include varied combinations. The 2-1-2 arrangement is one of my favourites when it comes to arranging cushions.

It works well with patterned grey decor cushions and white solid-coloured cushions. Two large scatter cushions in a solid colour tend to tie the diverse tones in your area together.

Then, to sit in front of them, choose two cushions in a smaller size with distinct designs and similar colour palettes. Finish with a tiny rectangular cushion in the middle that is patterned in the same tones as your two solids.

Decorating your living room sofa is a piece of cake with the right scatter cushions. Choose from the chic cushions for sale and give your sofa a treat!
